Jubilee Session Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Vladimir Ghazakhentsyan

On February 13, 2026, at the initiative of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, a jubilee session dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Vladimir Ghazakhentsyan was held. The event was attended by the scholar’s daughter, grandchildren, relatives, colleagues, friends, and students, united in honoring his memory and scientific legacy.
The opening speech was delivered by the Director of the Institute, NAS RA Academician Ashot Melkonyan, who emphasized Vladimir Ghazakhentsyan’s important role both in the development of Armenian historiography and in the organization of historical scholarship. In his remarks, he highlighted the scholar’s principled stance, his uncompromising efforts to uncover historical truth, and his contribution to the development of historical research.
A speech was also delivered by Robert Vardanyan, Director of the “Quant” Lyceum and Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. He emphasized that the presence of a scholar-teacher such as Vladimir Ghazakhentsyan during the first decade of the Lyceum’s existence significantly contributed to the institution’s development and the formation of its values. The director noted that the Lyceum highly values Ghazakhentsyan’s work and the educational and moral legacy he left behind.
Within the framework of the jubilee year, it was decided to dedicate the defense of research projects in the subject “History” at the Lyceum to the memory of Vladimir Ghazakhentsyan. In addition, the “Hayagitak” competition, organized by the Lyceum’s History Department, will also be held under the sign of the jubilee and dedicated to the great historian’s 100th anniversary.
The Lyceum will also establish the Vladimir Ghazakhentsyan Scholarship to encourage students interested in historical studies and demonstrating high academic achievement.
During the event, alumni of the “Quant” Lyceum also spoke about their beloved teacher: Mikael Malkhasyan, Head of the Lyceum’s History Department and Associate Professor at Yerevan State University, Candidate of Historical Sciences; and Lilit Hakobyan, Public Relations Coordinator of the “Quant” Lyceum and Associate Professor at the Armenian State University of Economics, Candidate of Biological Sciences. Distinguished representatives of modern historiography also delivered reports on the scholar’s historical legacy.
The event became not only a tribute to the memory of a great scholar but also a symbol of continuity, demonstrating that his ideas, scientific rigor, and pedagogical principles continue to live on and inspire new generations.
